Ponziane Islands Six islands compose the Ponziane (Pontine) Island chain in the Tyrrhenian Sea: Ponza, Palmarola, Zannone, Ventotene, Santo Stefano and Gavi. With their volcanic origin and stunning emerald and blue waters, the islands have a dramatic landscape, particularly those that are completely or partially uninhabited, such as Zannone or Pamarola with its transparent shores and sweeping cliffs. Ponza and Ventotene offer more amenities, with hotels, restaurants and popular beaches. Monte la Guardia on Ponza offers unmatched, panoramic views of the crescent-shaped scenery below, and en route to Chiaia di Luna beach you might see archaeological ruins, through a Roman-built tunnel. The Botanic Garden of Ponza brims with delights for the lover of unique flower and plant species. Relax at the neoclassical structure within the garden overlooking the sea. Boat around the island to see many scogli - detached rock formations that jut from the sea - and sea caves. Scuba diving and snorkeling are readily available on Ponza, and on land, the opportunity shop and relax over a hearty lunch before siesta settles in. |
